Contrary to the expectations of her critics, controversial actress, Foluke Daramola is set to wed her lover and business associate, Olukayode Salako, in a traditional ceremony that is scheduled to take place in Lagos on Friday, February 15, 2013 (today).
The couple may have decided to have a low-key wedding, which will be attended by only close friends and relations, in order to avoid getting entangled in another web of negative reactions from their critics and other members of the public.
In a text message, which she sent to Art & Life on Wednesday, Daramola said, “My hearthrob, Olukayode Ezekiel Salako, would like to engage me, Foluke Omolola Daramola, amongst a few family members and friends, in a traditional wedding engagement on the February 15, which coincides with my birthday, at 2, Gbeleyi Avenue, by Femifoam Oyemekun College Road, Ifako-Ijaiye.Time:12 noon. Please, no African time and pray for us ahead. Your presence will gladden our ‘heart’, God bless u.”
Daramola was married before with two children. Until now, her whirlwind romance with Salako, a businessman, politician and civil rights activist, had been the subject of much debate within the social circles of Lagos.
In a previous interview with the The PUNCH, the actress had said that marriage was not on her agenda. She had expressed her desire to proceed on further studies abroad.
Apart from that, Daramola and the groom-to-be had planned to start a non-governmental organisation, known as Change Agents, that would work towards promoting patriotism among young Nigerians.
At the moment, it appears that marriage is uppermost in their minds. Perhaps, tomorrow’s wedding is aimed at finally shutting up their critics and others who have accused the actress of breaking Salako’s marriage of many years.

It’s confirmed! After months of denial and hiding, R&B-Pop singer Tiwa Savage and her manager Tunji ‘Tee Billz’ are now officially engaged!
Tee Billz made a formal proposal to Tiwa Savage tonight, February 5, 2013, nine days to Valentine’s Day. The romantic moment was witnessed by a few celebrity friends including label boss Don Jazzy, Dr SID, Banky W, OAP Toolz and several others.
The pair had denied the relationship for years, and when the marriage rumours surfaced weeks back, their denials became even more vehement. But the past few days proved they had gotten tired of living a lie; with photos, and tweets from here and Dubai confirming what they had hidden for long.
‘I am not engaged and I am not dating Tee Billz. If I am, you would have seen a ring on my finger indicating that I am engaged. It’s just a rumour’, she told Encomium in December 2012.
But the rumours re-emerged when the pair flew to Dubai and checked into the luxurious Burj Al Arab Hotel, spending time together, taking boat cruises and the likes. Sources are suggesting that Tiwa and Mr Balogun might even have wedded and that the Dubai trip was their honeymoon.
This morning which happens to be Tiwa’s 34 birthday, Tee Billz reportedly updated his BlackBerry Messenger status to ’Happy birthday Mrs Billz‘. Tiwa also posted two cakes on her Instagram page. The inscription on the first cake reads ‘Happy birthday Mrs Billz‘.
‘The power to deny their relationship grows weaker by the day, they are really in love with each other’, a source close to the couple tells us. ‘Now that they have announced their status to everyone, the tension will cease’.
When a young undergraduate suddenly commits suicide, neighbours and friends are bound to draw various conclusions.
It is a more puzzling tragedy because suicide is not common among youths in Nigeria.
Till date, people are wondering why an undergraduate of the University of Lagos identified simply as Seun committed suicide on January 19. His action has left his family and friends in shock.
Claims by neighbours that he was a brilliant student in school could not be ascertained as efforts to investigate which department he was, proved abortive.
He lived with his aunt at 9, Alhaja Adijat Lawal, Beesam, Mafoluku, Lagos, where the incident was said to have occurred.
When our correspondent paid the family a visit, Seun’s aunt was still in shock.
“Please, I cannot say anything because this is a big tragedy for us,” said the woman, who did not give her name, said.
But some neighbours who spoke to our correspondent gave an insight into the kind of person Seun was and the circumstances surrounding his alleged suicide.
Most of those who spoke declined to give their names because they fear the deceased’s family might not look kindly upon them for speaking on their tragedy.
A young woman said of Seun, “I knew he was a student. I just did not know he attended UNILAG. He was an easy going and quiet man. We probably would have been close if he was not the quiet type.
“The day of the incident, I just got home from an errand and I was told Seun had been rushed to a hospital. When I asked what happened, I was told he went out to buy a substance and locked himself inside his room.
“I still don’t know what happened to make him take that action. I think those in the house when he went to buy the substance must have suspected he was going to do something drastic because they later forced the door open, but he had already ingested the substance he went to buy. They quickly took him to the hospital.”
It was learnt that Seun died later that evening in the hospital.
The young woman who spoke with our correspondent said she did not know the hospital Seun was taken to for treatment.
Our correspondent went to St. Nicholas Clinic, which was the nearest to the street to find out if any young man was brought there on January 19 for suspected poison ingestion. A nurse, who identified herself as Ibidun, said their records showed no such thing.
A beer joint operator on a street adjacent to Seun’s street said he knew the deceased too. But he could only remember him as “a very quiet young man of about 27 years old.”
The young woman who had earlier spoken with our correspondent put Seun’s age at around 28.
Suicides are still seen as taboo in many parts of Nigeria, a reason family and friends of victims would rather not speak about it in public.
“Please, whatever you want to know, I think it is better you speak with the family,” a tailor around the building where Seun lived told our correspondent.
Seun’s suicide remains shrouded in mystery more because the police have said no report was made about it.
Public Relations Officer of the Airport Police Command, Lagos, Mr. Dennis Ifijen, said, “We have no record of the case. I have not heard about it.”
Seun is the second undergraduate of UNILAG to commit suicide in the last one month, Saturday PUNCH learnt.
On New Year’s Eve, Damilola Durojaiye, a computer science student of the university, also allegedly committed suicide at his parents’ Akute-Ajuwon, Ogun State home.
The 19-year-old was said to be a brilliant student with a cumulative grade point average of about 3.9.
He reportedly stayed at home when his parents went for the cross-over service, only for them to come back and see his body dangling from where he hanged himself.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, said at the time that a suicide note was found where Durojaiye hung himself.
It probably may never be known what drove Seun to consider suicide as the way out like Durojaiye, but the incident is a pointer to the fact that problems faced by youths in the country are increasingly becoming psychological.
The clouds of rumours about Wizkid leaving his EME record label aren’t clearing away anytime soon, thanks to the pop artiste himself who seems to be heavily hinting about parting ways with the label.
Even though label boss Banky W has cleared the air on several occasions most recently on a Factory 78 interview early this year, fans are worried as they feel the 22-year-old pop star might be going solo.
Today, February 1, 2013, Wizzy began a rant on Twitter suggesting something very similar to what we’ve been hoping will not happen.
‘Don’t take Loyalty for stupidity..don’t!‘, ‘Moving on to start all over again!…Fuck it!..‘, ‘If dey sleep on u..move on!‘ were Wizkid’s statements on social media Twitter.
Wizkid, we gathered, Weezy has already signed a management deal in the UK with management company Disturbing London run by Nigerian-UK rapper Tinie Tempah. The deal we learn was inked early December 2012.
Wizkid also ended his long-year deal with his start-up manager Osagie Osarenkhoe back in September 2012, hiring Godwin Tom as an immediate replacement.
‘He’s growing into a man, making his own decisions. He fired Osagie and hired Godwin, if his contract with EME expires, who says he can’t leave?‘, an insider in the EME camp tells NET.
No word from Wizkid’s manager Godwin Tom as he is yet to respond to our E-mails.
